Happy 13th to our son, Jackson. Many of you know him from the shop or the farmers markets, so you know what a cool kid he has become. We are all very proud of him!
I spend a little time each week comparing our pricing with our competitors, including Whole Foods (on a separate note, if this WF post doesn’t make you laugh, there might be something wrong with you…). I do this to make sure we are in line as best we can be knowing the difference between how we do things and how “they” do things. One of the great frustrations with our business is constantly explaining why we are “more expensive”. Conversely, one of the great joys is when someone spends more than they are comfortable with on, say, one of our chickens, and then returns to tell me it was worth every penny and becomes a regular customer. (I know I’m preaching to the choir, but writing these things out is not just for your entertainment. It actually helps me think things through!). One of our goals with our business is make our meats available to our community. This is not to say our community members that can afford it, but our WHOLE community. I have yet to be given a reasonable budget that I couldn’t work with. But there is more to it than that. Here is why we are just like Costco. You Can Buy in Bulk!
These suggestions will lead you to the promised land of maintaining your food budget and still be able to feed your family meat you can feel good about. For instance, buy 10lb of Chuck Roast and save 20% off my retail prices. Or 6 chickens, same savings! Or pre-order 10# of Fresh Ground Beef, break it down into the size package that suits your family and save 25%! If you did all of those at once, you would only fill about 1/3 of a small chest freezer. If you go to the Chop Shop, anything you buy out of our freezer is automatically 10% off. The important thing is to ASK! Let us know what your goals/budget are and let us help you figure it out. Where am I going to put my new found bounty, you ask? A small chest freezer (about $100 on Craig’s List) will give you enough room to purchase enough meat to get our wholesale pricing, and a few extra’s that you can afford now that you saved all that money…like a pie made with summer berries….or a couple of filets you saved 10% on for your anniversary dinner….or Ben & Jerry’s Karmel Sutra (I don’t care what it’s made of, I’m not giving THAT up)…
